Hangar C is particularly significant due to its ties to the Redstone missile and its derivatives, which were adapted for use in space exploration, especially in the Mercury program, the United States' first human spaceflight program. The Mercury-Redstone launch vehicle, based on the work of Wernher von Braun, was used for the suborbital flights of the Mercury astronauts.
