As part of our collaboration with the National Park Service and the Southeast Archeological Center NPS, our researchers used 3D terrestrial laser scanning, aerial LiDAR and GPS to survey and 3D map the terrain and surrounding environs at Ocmulgee National Landmark. Included in our research was the examination of the earth lodge structure and documentation of a number of artifacts to support museum conservation and interpretation initiatives. This novel approach to digital archaeology at a variety of spatial scales is used to create virtual exploration and education tools and a permanent archive for the NPS. Our models can be viewed in full VR and AR application experiences. DHHC Lead 3D Specialist is Jorge Gonzalez with PIs Drs. Lori Collins and Travis Doering. NPS ATR Dr. Margo Schwadron.
