University of Reading fieldschool excavation. Led by Dr Gabor Thomas. The search for Queen Cynethryth.
On the south bank of the River Thames adjascent to where now is situated the Holy Trinity Church, we are searching for signs of the monastery at which the widow of King Offa, Queen Cynethryth was Abbess.
The excavation runs during the month of August from 2021 to 2024 and beyond. We have 2 trenches open, which are revealing a great deal of domestic activity and structures. These models are being posted as the excavation proceeds.
