More model information

Though sometimes overlooked in favour of the neighbouring Muiredach’s Cross, the Tall (or West) Cross at Monasterboice, Co. Louth, is one of the most important survivals from early medieval Ireland. Reputed to be the tallest high cross in the country (6.5m) the Tall Cross has more sculpted panels than any other high cross

Standing by Monasterboice’s round tower, the cross likely dates to the 10th century. Like some other high crosses, the faces depict scenes from the Bible’s Old Testament (west) & New Testament (east). The Tall Cross is a National Monument in State care which is in the ownership of the Minister for Housing, Local Government & Heritage & managed by the OPW. It can be visited all year round (53.777761, -6.417839). Guided tours are provided by the local community in June, July & August.
