More model informationA small knife blade (99-2610b) from the wreck of the 1564 Spanish galleon Santa Clara is 11 centimeters long, 1.6 centimeters at the widest, and 1.8 millimeters thick along the spine. It is pierced by a small hole near the end of the tang; above the hole is a stamped “5” or “S” maker’s mark. The short, squared tang with a single hole is typical for the blade of a folding knife. Knives of this type are known as navajas in Spanish. These small folding knives served as multifunction cutting tools for work, grooming, and medical needs, as well as weapons.
