Chalcatzingo, Morelos, Mexico Middle Formative Period The site contains one of the most extensive collections of Middle Formative period (c. 900-500 BC) bas-relief stone sculpture outside of the Olmec Gulf Coast lowlands.
Monument 45 is a newly discovered (2016) monument, that is in close proximity to Monuments 3, 4, 31 and 41, all showing felines. Like Monument 3, this feline is shown grasping and holding an upper human torso with outstretched arms. The cat has similar iconography to the other feline depictions at the site, especially Monument 41, with similarities in the ear, eye, mask, fangs, outstretched claws, and other features in common.
