Description: This ceramic head fragment likely originates from the Chupícuaro culture of Preclassic Mexico. The Chupícuaro culture was influential in ceramic production, devoting much time to the creation and exporting of ceramic figurines. This figure illustrates some of the characteristics of Chupícuaro figurines, such as the ‘coffee bean’ shaped eyes, and typical centre hair parting of a female figure. This fragment likely dates from the 3rd century BCE–the 4th century CE.
Date Made: Pre-Classical Mexico, Chupícuaro culture.
