More model informationDetail of St Hilda from a stela cross erected in the graveyard of St Mary’s Church, Whitby, North Yorkshire. The cross stands on top of the cliff that overlooks Whitby Bay. St Hilda is associated with ammonites in Whitby. Local legend tells how she transformed snakes into stones, hence the reason for ammonite fossils found in the region along the seaside cliffs.
