One of the most beautiful places to date is in Ekaterina’s Square with the monument to the founders of Odessa.
According to the original plan of the city, which was developed by Franz de Volan, the area has a round shape and was named Ekaterina, because it was laid at the base of the Military Church of St. Catherine, the patron of the temple of heaven the future Empress. After the death of the Empress in November 1796 the construction of the church, as well as all of Odessa, was stopped by Paul I.
September 23, 1891 Odessa City Council decided to create a monument in honor of the centenary of the founding of the city. On the eve of the 100th anniversary of Odessa administration was held a competition to design the monument, which resulted in better recognized project architect YM Dmitrenko. August 24, 1892 City Duma allowed to take to implement this project. by http://ua-travel.info
