A fully restored Spanish Civil War memorial was rededicated in Forbury Gardens.
Mayor of Reading Tony Jones led the event at the Abbey Quarter and was joined by representatives from the Borough Council, trade unions and other local groups.
The ceremony comes almost exactly 25 years after the statue was first unveiled in May 1990.
The result of four years of fundraising, the memorial was created by local sculptor Eric Stanford and depicts the mothers of those killed in Spain during the Civil War of 1936-39.
At least 16 people from, or with connection, to Reading were killed during the fighting.
Cllr Jones said: “I am very pleased to see this memorial – and an important part of Reading’s heritage - renovated and relocated to the Abbey Quarter. The rededication service honoured and remembered those Reading residents who fought for freedom and democracy in the Spanish Civil War.”
