EN: An exotic white shell, probably belonging to the genus ‘strombus’. It was likely used as a foghorn or ship’s horn, as the top has been removed, seemingly for acoustic purposes. Dimensions: length 20 cm. Kept at the Dutch National Maritime Archaeological Depot at Museum Batavialand. A stray find from lot Q10 in East Flevoland, the Netherlands, early in the 1960s. Presumed date: 17th-19th century.

NL: Een witte schelp, waarschijnlijk behorende tot het geslacht ‘strombus’. Vermoedelijk gebruikt als misthoorn of scheepstoeter, aangezien de top lijkt te zijn verwijderd om er geluid mee te kunnen maken. Afmetingen: lengte 20 cm. Nationaal Scheepsarcheologisch Depot, Museum Batavialand. Losse vondst, aangetroffen op kavel Q10 in Oostelijk Flevoland begin jaren ‘60 van de vorige eeuw. Ruwe datering: 17de-19de eeuws.
