This building stood the civil war of Mogadishu. Benadir is an administrative region, it covers the same area as the city of Mogadishu, although by far the smallest administrative region in Somalia, it has the largest population. Benadir is derived from the Persian bandar, which means “port”, in reference to the coastal cities of Mogadishu and Barawa. Benaadir is also known for its local breed of goats. The building is now occupied by the Mayor of Mogadishu, and serves the city of Mogadishu.
This is part of an ongoing project looking at some of the most important buildings in Mogadishu.
