The remains of the AA battery command building at Crosby Battery, Lancashire. There appear to be four other structures, two each to the north and south, which housed the AA guns.
This model was created by CITiZAN volunteers as a training exercise, using a DSLR with no GPS, and nothing but a 1m ranging pole for a scale. The purpose of the exercise, aside from learning how to photograph for Structure from Motion, was to see how well results can be produced by amateurs and without location or scaling technology.
Considering the brightness of the sun that day, and the relatively few images (177), the model is surprisingly complete and has a high quality texture. The results show that a dedicated volunteer can easily take a few hundred images, send them to CITiZAN, and create at the least a basic visual record in very little time. If this structure was in immediate danger of destruction, say to the tide or erosion, any record taken is better than none!
