Site 13 at Carrowmore megalithic cemetery, County Sligo, Ireland.
Carrowmore is amongst the largest megalithic cemeteries in Europe and the greatest concentration of tombs in Ireland. In terms of date we are looking at construction in the Neolithic around 4000BC. Of site 13 only the dolmen survives, an outer ring of stones estimated to be around 13 metres diameter had been removed by the early 19th Century. The modern road passes very close to the dolmen, a few years ago a car crashed into the dolmen resulting in the capstone having to be put back on with a crane.
