Donated to the BPMA from Limb Fitting Centre at the Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton with this description: ‘Developed by Hugh Steeper Ltd manufactures of Upper Limb Prosthesis thought the UK at the time. This is the only one remaining postman’s hand we have at Roehampton. It was retuned to us by a retiring postman in the early 1970s. The hand is dated on the base 4/11/1964, this is the date supplied. They were in use from about 1950s to the mid 1970s. The hand was designed to hold letters, the roller allows one letter to be removed while still keeping grasp of the others.
