Named as Cuthbert, he is a chimney sweeper apprentice, usually called as “Bert”, “Hubert”, “Hugh” or just “Lad” or “Boy” by his Master sweep Floyd Griffiths. It is not rare to hear the goughings roughed voice through the chimney yelling “Go on, hurry, Cuthbert! Why’d you were given so long name anyways to think through with your small brain, laddy? C’mon Hugh, you think we got all day to sweep only this one chimney if you want something else for supper than just water? Better keep sweeping and sweep fast, or you’ll stay like the little bastard you are for the rest your short life.” and so on. Even so the master sweep is tough slave driver, Cuthbert is not afraid of him, and secretly calls him with names when he’s not hearing or around.
