Medieval wreck, a possible Cog.3D Model
The wreck is deeply buried in the mud. Most of the ship seems to be well preserved. It dates most likely from the 14th century. The wreck is 20-22 meters in length and more than 7 meters wide which is comparable to the Bremer cog. It has one mast still in in place . Most likley it had a square rig. More shipbuilding details indicate it being from the Middle Ages, such as protruding deck beams with unusually high knees and a very simple made windlass. There are several indications that this might be a cog. When cog ships were introduced around the 12th century on the seas they were a brand new, large and powerful type of ship that came to dominate large parts of the trade around the Baltic Sea for centuries.
