This was again REALLY hard. The Matterport scanner has extreme difficulties scanning outside. As much so that Matterport just flat out tells you to give up and not even try. The problem is that Matterport’s 3d depth scanner is infrared-based. It sends light out and receives it back and (I think) measures the distance based on the time it takes to get back.
But during day sunlight is so strong that it simply doesn’t see its own infrared beam anymore. But there’s one solution: scan without sunlight. But then your textures will be black and you’ll only have depth data. Just around sunrise or sunset is a good time though. You’ll get enough light reflected from the clouds which act as a nice diffuser light. But you won’t have direct super strong sunlight. So I tried, and it worked.
