The Micro Pulse Rifle (uPR) board is having a big revamp. This is a mockup of the design to see how the somewhat non-standard use of through-hole connectors strickes people.
I wanted the new board to have plugin connectors for everything, because soldering is often not one of the strongest skills of M41A prop builders. Adding the connectors in the normal orientation made the board too thick for many builds, though. So I thought I’d try mounting them across the edge instead. The double-sided soldering should give plenty of ruggedness, but it does come at the cost of a slightly increased footprint. I have reduced the size of the PCB as much as possible, packing as many components in underneath the LED display, which you can see if you orientate it right and squint hard enough through the gaps.
The main things in this revamp, besides the connectors, are:
- More powerful MCU with much easier (Arduino-compatible) programming
- Simple USB cable for programming
- Proper PWM LED driver chip
- LIBus compatible
