Kerbstone 5, Dowth Hall Passage Tomb (Photo)3D ModelNoAI
Greywacke kerbstone located immediately east of K4 along the southern perimeter of the Dowth Hall Passage Tomb (ME020-098----). Decorated with two pecked motifs on its southern/vertical face. The most westerly motif is a partial (1.5 revolutions), anticlockwise spiral. East of this, there is pecking visible along the edges of a subrectangular fracture that removed part of the vertical face. It is not clear if the pecking was applied after the fracture occurred, or if the fracture truncated a motif. However, evidence of heat damage to the kerbstone and the presence of charcoal-rich soil with Beaker pottery inclusions immediately in front of it, could indicate that the fracture was caused by a fire set against the kerb during the Chalcolithic period.
