Henrietta Marie Cauldron 2002.07.01 Coral Detail3D Model
When a shipwreck falls to the sea floor, it is quickly incorporated into the marine environment. In the case of the 1700 slave shipHenrietta Marie, which is located in the warm, sub-tropical waters of the Florida Keys, its artifacts were often colonized by corals. Because the metal artifacts offer a durable and stable surface, these corals found them to be a suitable site to occupy. In the case of the Henrietta Marie’s large copper cauldron, a colony of Star Coral found a good home. Though, the colony is somewhat small at 14 x 18cm, it lived long enough to create a complex structure. It is impossible to know exactly when this coral grew, though – it could have been 100 years ago or 300 years ago. A model of the full cauldron is found here: https://skfb.ly/6uoox
