Reconstruction of an Iron Age hut (Fidene, Rome)3D Model
This model shows the reconstruction of an Iron Age hut that was excavated during various campagins around 1990. The excavations yielded the remains of a well-preserved hut structure (30 sq meter) which has been reconstructed after excavation.
The walls are made with the terra-pisé technique (pressed earth). Several posts outside the perimeter of the wall impart rigidity to the hutwalls. The hut seems to have been destroyed by a sudden fire.
A curious find are the skeletal remains of a domestic cat, trapped in the corner of a hut.
This model is based on a series of photos taken in the winter of 2013. Additional photos were taken in 2015. Unfortunately, the area is poorly maintained leading to a poor coverage of the roof due to nearby trees.
