A life-size depiction of this palstave axe can be found on the nearby Rock Panel of the Axes and on the Rock Panel of the Dancer. It was used for daily chores, as a weapon in battle or during ceremonies. It symbolizes a whole community rather than a single person. Palstave axes are not found in tombs, but in other excavation sites around the countryside. The largest cult axes were deposited, possibly sacrificed, in bogs and marshes.
