Herschel Island is located in the Beaufort Sea (Arctic Ocean), and lies 5 km (3.1 mi) off the coast of Yukon in Canada. It is the Yukon's only offshore island. During the summer of 2018, archaeologists and geomatics engineers from the University of Calgary worked with the Yukon Government to digitally preserve a series of historic buildings located at Pauline Cove. Many of these buildings are currently at risk due to the effects of climate change. A Z+F 5010X laser scanner was used to capture each building, and the resulting scans were registered using Z+F laser control software. In 2019, a Leica BLK360 scanner was used to capture the interiors of all of the buildings, as well as the exteriors of some smaller structures.
