Area of exposed bedrock with prehistoric carvings on private farmland near Chattonpark Hill, Chatton, Northumberland.
This exposure is referenced ‘Chatton 15b’ on the Beckensall Archive (BA) and was added to ERA by NADRAP in 2008. The team describe:
‘Two possible cups can be seen towards the south end of the stone, just north of the planar erosion. Whether the cups are artificial or natural is open to question, but they are similar in size to more definite rock art in the area. To the north west of centre, near the edge of the stone is a large shallow circular depression, likely to have been caused through natural weathering of silica/calcite weakness’
