The second test to see if photogrammetry has the potential to replace hand-drawn maps for terrestrial archaeology. This time I put photo board symbols in the walls to see if it improved Photoscan’s ability to align the pictures. Test 1 did so well though (much better than I expected) that the difference is minor if it is there at all.
The unit was much deeper than I anticipated and I now have a much better idea of what I would need to do this next time. I would need:
- A tent that isn’t opaque (so it can act as a light tent).
- A camera that has remote functionality.
- A bicycle camera mount and a bit of PVC to make photographing much easier.

2 failed to align
Special thanks to the Florida Sate University 2016 field school for providing the unit.
