Meteorites are rocks from space that have passed through the atmosphere and landed on the Earth's surface. Some meteorites are like igneous rocks on Earth, others are pieces of metal, and others are different from all known Earth rocks. All meteorites are pieces of other bodies in space that give us clues to the origin and history of the solar system.

This collection also contains examples of rocks which are identical to those found on the Moon and Mars. Although these rocks were not actually collected from the Moon or Mars, they are exactly the same rock types as those that were. They are often used by scientists as replacements for the real extra-terrestrial samples in experiments.
