This project is to cooperatively utilize digital and spatial documentation strategies to record and develop 3D and cartographic models for sites and features in the Everglades National Park, Florida. Many of these historic sites consist of stone structural ruins that are subject to destruction from water erosion that is being caused by both natural and anthropogenic forces. These fragile resources are susceptible to vandalism, wave action, and storm surge processes such as hurricanes and other weather events. Using these combined digital and spatial mapping strategies, these prehistoric and historic sites can be readily assessed using online tools and GIS analyses, with areas mapped, monitored, and analyzed for this project using a combination of remote sensing aerial and terrestrial LiDAR methods combined with GPS ground truth verification strategies and close-range terrestrial and laser scanning approaches.
